Astoria Nordic Heritage Park
The West Studio

Summary:
ASHA collaborated with the City of Astoria to renovate an existing city park into a themed space honoring the cultural heritage of Nordic immigrants in the region. The site development included grading, a stormwater management system, irrigation, and coordination with the adjacent trolley line. Key cultural features incorporated into the design include flagpoles representing the five Nordic countries, a maypole and performance plaza, a lighted arch, whimsical troll sculptures, decorative trunks, benches, and interpretive panels throughout the park that tell the story of the immigrants and their significant impact on the area.
